Do I need a driving test booked already?
Yes. You need an existing DVSA practical driving test booking. Under the 2026 DVSA rules, only you can change your test, so you need a booking in place before we start monitoring. You can book any available date through DVSA, even if it is months away, then let DriveSooner alert you when something earlier comes up.
How does DriveSooner work?
DriveSooner is a notification service. DriveSooner manually checks the DVSA booking system for available slots at your chosen test centres. When a slot appears that matches your preferences, we send you an SMS and email alert straight away. You then log in to the official DVSA booking system yourself and move your test to that slot. We never book, change, amend, cancel, swap, hold, reserve, resell, or manage your test for you.
How quickly will I get an alert?
We manually check throughout the day and send alerts quickly when a matching slot appears. How quickly you find a slot depends on your test centre and how flexible you are with dates and times. The more eligible centres you choose, the better your chances.
Which test centres can I monitor?
From 9 June 2026, DVSA rules only allow you to move your test to the 3 nearest eligible centres based on your current booked centre. DriveSooner applies this rule to your alert preferences, so your alerts only cover slots you are actually eligible to take. Up to 3 centres are included.
What if you don't find me an earlier slot?
All paid plans include a satisfaction guarantee. If you are not happy with our service, get in touch and we will work with you to find a resolution.
Is DriveSooner affiliated with the DVSA?
No. DriveSooner is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the DVSA, GOV.UK, or any UK government body.
Is it legal to use a slot notification service?
From 12 May 2026, only the learner driver can book or change their own driving test. DriveSooner is designed around these rules. We only send you alerts. We never book, change, amend, cancel, swap, hold, reserve, resell, or manage your test. You make any change yourself through DVSA.
Will I lose my current test date?
No. Your existing test date stays in place until you choose to move it. When you get one of our alerts, you log in to the official DVSA booking system yourself and decide whether to change to the earlier slot. Nothing changes without you taking action.
Can I change my test centres or preferences after signing up?
Yes. You can update your preferred centres, dates, times, and available days from your dashboard at any time. Changes take effect straight away.

What changed in May and June 2026?

From 12 May 2026, SI 2026/326 (The Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Amendment) Regulations 2026) made it illegal for anyone other than the learner to book or change a driving test. GOV.UK confirmed that third-party bookings, changes, swaps, and cancellations are against the law.

From 9 June 2026, if you want to move your test to a different centre, you can only move it to one of the 3 nearest eligible centres to your current booked location. DriveSooner applies this restriction to your alert preferences, so you only receive alerts for slots you are actually allowed to take.
